Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo was born in Yablochnoye, Ukraine on October 16, 1936, just after Ukrainian famine. Poverty and effect of famine was still present when Chikatilo was born. During his childhood, Andrei Chikatilo and his sister were repeatedly told a story of their older brother, Stepan, who was kidnapped and cannibalized at the hands of starving Ukrainians during the great famine. There is no proof that Stepan really existed, but it was a story his mother told her children numerous times. He graduated college, married, had two children, and lived a relatively normal life. He was a good father and a husband, being calm and gentle towards his family. However, the other side of his personality broke off on over fifty of his victims: cunning, wily, and completely sociopathic, capturing and murdering people for almost fifteen years. Despite this, the communist Russian government denied the work of a serial killer and passed his crimes unchecked.
Chikatilo believed that he was simply getting rid of the undesirables in the society, by killing most of his victims from the “lower class”, such as prostitutes, runaways, etc. He cut out their tongues, disemboweled them with a knife and by hand, bit off body parts, etc. He became sexually aroused and raped little children and made them like it because in the act of killing the victims, and this classifies him as sadistic.
Andrei was captured and released several times, and at last, he confessed his crime, to have killed 52 victims. He was sentenced to death, and so in February 16, 1994, he was shot in the back of the head, in Moscow prison.
